Eligibility Criteria for NEET UG

To secure admission into any of the prestigious Indian medical institutions like AIIMS-New Delhi and all new AIIMS, JIPMER-Puducherry, NIMHANS-Bengaluru, PGIMER-Chandigarh and SCTIMST- Trivandrum, etc., you must meet the eligibility criteria specified for NEET. These criteria encompass educational qualifications, minimum marks percentage, age limit, and reservation policies:

Educational Qualification: You must have completed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects

Minimum Marks Percentage: General category candidates must secure a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology combined. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the minimum aggregate requirement is 40%, and for PWD candidates, it is 45%.

Age Limit: You must be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before December 31 of the admission year. There is no upper age limit for NEET UG.

Reservation Policy: Indian nationals belonging to certain categories are admitted under the seats reserved for them in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Government of India. The categories and the extent of reservation are as follows:  

General category belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (GEN- EWS) – 10% of seats in every course. 

Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC- NCL) – 27% of seats in every course.

Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in every course.  

Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in every course.  

Persons with Disability (PwBD) – 5% seats in each of GEN, GEN-EWS, OBCNCL, SC, and ST category seats (Horizontal reservation).

Exam Pattern of NEET UG 

In order to prepare effectively for NEET UG it is important to understand the exam pattern. The exams follow a structured format that includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering various subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.

There will be four subjects in the NEET UG 2024 and each subject will have two sections namely Section A and Section B. Wherein, Section A in all subjects will have 35 questions, the section B of each subject will have 15 Questions, out of these 15 Questions, you can choose to attempt any 10 Questions. So, the total number of questions and utilization of time will remain the same.

  • For Each Correct Answer: +4 marks
  • For Each Incorrect Answer: -1 mark 
  • No Marks Will be Awarded For Any Unattempted/Unanswered Questions

 

For Section B (MCQs) 

 

You need to attempt any 10 Questions out of 15 Questions given. In the event that you have attempted more than 10 questions, only the first 10 attempted questions will be considered for evaluation.

  • For Each Correct Answer: +4 Marks
  • For Each Incorrect Answer: -1 Mark
  • No Marks Will be Awarded For Any Unattempted/Unanswered Questions

 

In case of Discrepancy/Anomaly in Section A and Section B:

  • If more than one option is found to be correct: +4 marks will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options. 
  • If all options are found to be correct: +4 Marks will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question
  • If none of the options is found correct or a Question is found to be wrong or a Question is dropped then all candidates who have appeared will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

Application Procedure

As the admissions to all seats of Undergraduate Medical / Dental Courses will be done through NEET (UG) - 2024, you must apply for it on time. When applying for this exam, it is crucial to follow the application process diligently. You need to submit your application form online through the official website within the specified timeframe. 

Carefully fill in all the required details, including personal information, educational qualifications, and contact information. Ensure that you attach the necessary documents and photographs as per the guidelines provided. Pay attention to the application fee payment process and submit the fee before the deadline. Following these instructions will ensure a smooth and successful application process. Here are the detailed steps to follow:

Step 1: Apply for NEET (UG) - 2024 through the “Online” mode only on the website https://neet.nta.nic.in/. Remember to apply only once.

Step 2: Register for the Online Application Form and note down the system-generated Application Number. You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP received wherever asked.

Step 3: Log in with the system-generated Application Number and pre-created Password for completing the Application Form. 

Step 4: Fill up your personal details, choosing the Question Paper medium and Examination Cities, providing the details of Educational Qualifications, and uploading the images and documents.

Step 5: Upload the required documents

Step 6:  Before submitting the fees, you have to enter the OTP received at your registered e-mail address. And pay the requisite examination fee. You can do so through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, UPI. Processing charges and GST as applicable are chargeable to the candidate (in addition to the examination fee) by the concerned Bank/Payment Gateway Integrator. 

Step 7: After successful payment, you will see the confirmation page on screen. Download, save and print a copy of this page. You will receive the copy of the Confirmation Page, Scanned OMR, and Score Card of NEET (UG) – 2024 to your registered e-mail address.  

Required Documents 

Note down the list of documents you need to upload while applying for the NEET UG 2024. You should upload every document very carefully and in case of images, make sure to upload clearly visible ones.

  • Scanned Recent Photograph either in colour or black and white with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against a white background. (Format: JPG Size: 10 kb - 200 kb)
