On 13th September 2023 (Wednesday), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with Chief Minister of Delhi-Arvind Kejriwal, inaugurated the first-ever 'School of Eminence', which is no less than a big private school, in Chheharta, Amritsar. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener-Kejriwal, and Mann unveiled a series of initiatives worth Rs 1,600 crore aimed at a comprehensive transformation of the school education system in Punjab.

He reiterated the AAP's commitment to providing government schools in Punjab that are on par with private institutions, fulfilling a promise made to the people.

“One Nation, One Education”
In Punjab, a total of 117 current schools are slated for enhancement under the 'Schools of Eminence' Scheme. The AAP government in Punjab has identified four schools in the Amritsar district for priority upgrade in which Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Chheharta has already been inaugurated. The remaining schools in Amritsar will be GSSS Town Hall, GSSS Mall Road, and GSSS (for girls) in Jandiala Guru.

Punjab’s Hon’able CM Bhagwant Mann launched a transportation service, initially exclusive to Schools of Eminence, with a particular focus on benefiting girls. This initiative, costing Rs 21 crore, is set to assist around 20,000 students. Furthermore, Punjab is poised to become the first state in India to have Wi-Fi connectivity in every school. Within the next six months, all schools will be furnished with internet access. Moreover, the appointment of a campus manager and two security guards for every government secondary school.
Mann also announced the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) courses in government schools. He outlined plans to train approximately 10,000 teachers in AI, who will then go on to instruct an initial cohort of 1 lakh students. Mann hailed these endeavors as an "education revolution" in Punjab, underscoring that students from government schools in the state are now offered opportunities for experiential learning in esteemed institutions, including ISRO.
The Schools of Eminence will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including digital classrooms equipped with projectors, LEDs, interactive smartboards with integrated speakers, and subject-specific electronic content libraries, in addition to supplemental resources, these schools will encompass a comprehensive array of educational streams including medical, non-medical, commerce, humanities, and vocational courses. Furthermore, continuous professional development initiatives will be conducted for both school principals and teachers.
Additional facilities like Wi-Fi, and advanced IT infrastructure will also be there in all the Schools. These institutions will undergo a transformation with the provision of bus transportation and will feature intelligent recreational spaces, well-stocked libraries, cutting-edge science laboratories, and integrated computer labs.
