The NEET 2024 exam will be reconducted on June 23, 2024, for 1,563 candidates who were previously given grace marks due to a loss of time at the exam centre on May 5. The results of this exam will be announced on June 30, 2024. The NTA Special Committee has reviewed concerns regarding the NEET 2024 result controversy and has reported its findings to the Supreme Court of India.

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that the scores of the 1,563 candidates who received grace marks in NEET 2024 due to the loss of time at the exam centre have been cancelled. These candidates will have the option to take the retest. For those who do not appear for the retest, their results will be based on the scores obtained in the May 5, 2024, exam, excluding the grace marks.

Why NEET UG 2024 Re-Test?

On June 13, the Union government told the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who were given extra marks in the NEET-UG 2024 exam on May 5 will be cancelled. These candidates will have another chance to take the exam, likely on June 23, with results expected by June 30. Counselling for seats will start by July 6. The affected candidates will be informed of their actual scores without the extra marks. They can choose to take the re-test or keep their original scores without the extra marks.

The court was hearing petitions against giving extra marks to the 1,563 candidates from six NEET centres. These candidates did not get the full 3.2 hours to finish the exam due to technical problems. The extra marks were given based on a court order and a recommendation from a committee set up by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET. It was argued that giving these extra marks was unfair and not transparent.

The re-examination is valid for the following cases only:

  • The scorecards issued to all 1,563 affected candidates on 04.06.2024 will be cancelled and withdrawn. These candidates will be informed of their actual scores (without compensation) via their registered email IDs.
  • A re-examination will be conducted for the 1,563 affected candidates.
  • For those affected candidates who do not wish to appear for the re-examination, their results will be based on the actual marks (without compensation) obtained in the examination conducted on 05.05.2024.
  • The marks obtained by candidates who take the re-test will be considered final, and their marks from the 05.05.2024 examination will be discarded.
